When you order a new security system installation for your commercial property, you might be wondering where the best places are to put the cameras. There are definitely some places you cannot position cameras, like the restrooms, but there are lots of other places where you can (and should!) place cameras. The following suggestions will help you decide where to place your cameras to best benefit your business.

Blind Corners

Any corner or place in and around your business that you cannot see from a certain angle or coming out of a door is where you should place a camera. A lot of people put cameras right in front of or near doors, and that is fine, but you can prevent more criminal activity when you can spot a perpetrator sneaking around your building. Criminals will look for your "blind spots" around the building and inside the building, and they will use these blind spots or blind corners to plan their approach and execution of their crimes. If you cover these areas with working security cameras, there is no way you cannot see these people coming. 

Ceiling Cameras vs. Wall Cameras

Ceiling cameras provide a greater overall view of what is going on inside your office, store, etc. Wall cameras, even those that rotate, will still only provide views of what is happening closest to them and closest to the walls. The wall cameras may pick up trace movements outside their full frame views, but the ceiling cameras will capture what is happening by looking down from above in three-hundred-sixty-degree views. You can use both of these types of security cameras, but the ceiling ones are more highly recommended, especially if you own and operate a store. 

Any Part of the Parking Lot Is Fair Game

Parking lots can be very dangerous places. Back in the '80's and '90's, there were news stories of guys hiding under vehicles and slashing the Achilles tendons of the owners of the vehicles so that the assailants could take both car and victim and do with them as they wished. It was a terrifying time for anyone that had to walk out into a dark parking lot. Security beefed up, and now there is hardly a parking lot anywhere that does not have security cameras and tons of floodlights. If your business does not cover the parking lot with camera footage, you need to put cameras out there now.
